On May 17th 2016, Escola Profissional da Moita School visited Glennmont’s Seixal Solar Plant in Portugal.The tour was organized by Martifer Solar in conjunction with Vectorcuatro.
Renewable energy is having a greater impact in Portugal and there is increased youth awareness and interest in clean energy technology and the positive impacts it has on the environment.
On arrival at the solar plant, the students were given Personal Protective Equipment and briefed on health, safety and security on site.
During the tour, Site personal explained the solar panel installation procedure and described the functionality of the photovoltaic modules and inverters, as well as the junction boxes and other connections of the plant.
In small groups, the students were shown the inner parts of the inverters and transformer centers and all the different components that facilitate the production of energy.
Other important elements were also explained such as the meteo station and the monitoring system – all essential to the successful operation of the PV plant.
At the end of the visit, the students expressed their desire to continue learning about Clean Energy technology to encourage a more sustainable world.
